Serpentine - Sex, Fetish, Death
A History of the Corset

Bertie Page Clinic unveil “Serpentine” a rock opera that charts the evolution of the world’s most notorious undergarment, the corset. From humble beginnings as a means of support and protection from the elements, the boned bodice became a volatile, moral battleground reaching a fevered climax in the Victorian era. Today it lives on as a much sought after item of fetish and mainstream fashion, often misunderstood, always an object of awe. Serpentine opens this sartorial Pandora’s box with dark humour, sumptuous costuming and mind blowing classic rock style.

Bertie draws upon three years of research from academic texts and primary sources; she has walked the halls of Versailles, trawled vintage fashion stores in Paris, Berlin and Edinburgh in search of girdles and perused the extensive historical, fashion collections at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The result is an exquisite nightmare, a journey through the some of western culture’s most painful and bizarre customs. Yet there are two sides to every twisted tale, with great wit and vocal finesse Bertie shines a light on the corset in its role as a liberator, a bargaining chip and emancipator of the female sex.

Serpentine is an extraordinary cultural feast blending original rock songs with an unexpected nod to the works of Motown and Giuseppe Verdi. To top it all off the entire troupe will be dressed in lavish, historically inspired designs by Sydney fashion house “Gallery Serpentine.” Following three grand nights in Brisbane and Byron Bay, Bertie Page brings this grand spectacle to Melbourne's Wesley Anne Hotel.

Russia Vs France –Bertie Page Clinic, The Chrome Street Follies, The Dirty Eastwoods and Dunes at the Beetle Bar

East meets West in an explosive flash of rock n roll at the Beetle Bar, Saturday 18 August. The stars of the Chrome Street follies are marching on Roma Street, wrapped in furs, soaked in vodka, eager to prove that Smirnoff is supreme. Meanwhile Bertie Page Clinic will attempt to repel them at the border, flying the French flag in advance of their September European tour. It’s like the Crimean War all over again, but with guitars and tassels. Be prepared for trench warfare. If you don’t know what the Crimean War was, just think Boris and Natasha meets Pepe le Pew. Still confused? You should be.

Bertie Page Clinic

The Clinic are a sight and sound to behold. Led by outgrageous frontwoman Bertie Page, they weave rock, punk, pop and even opera into their bizarre live shows. In September they’re off once again to Europe, performing at a lesbian festival on the Greek island of Lesbos before heading to France for a non-stop two week run of shows. To celebrate their love of all things French (especially the knickers), they’ve recorded a short album they’re calling French Tickler, an aural marital aid! Featuring original songs plus a punked up version of that old children’s favourite “Alouette”, the petit disque will be available at this special farewell show. Check out the first single off the record “My Sister’s Friend’s Cousin From Woodridge”, an anti-bullying punk madrigal that tells you there’s always someone bigger and tougher than you, so don’t be an asshole.
